Red Balloons, a Cemetery, and a Competition

This is a recent photo series I have playfully named The Weight of Helium. With the help of my very good friend Amanda I was able to make one of my ideas a reality. She was a trooper! I could have not accomplished this series without her. We took about 100 photos that day. These are some of the best.

This series tells a story of personal strife and in the end victory. I always want the viewer to interpret my work on their own and have the freedom to feel whatever they would like. However, to me, the balloons are a metaphor for everything in her life causing her pain and weighing her down. The cigarettes are meant to convey mood and the smoke represents the release of her various emotions.

I have entered these photos, along with others I have taken, in a international photography competition called One Life. To view (and hopefully vote for) my portfolio go here: http://alisonpalizzolo.see.me/onelife2012. Thank you, in advance, to everyone who takes the time to look at the collection I entered.

A Day at the Lake

Last weekend my husband and I went to my family lake house. I practically grew up there and it is my second home. I am so relaxed and happy when I am there. I brought my camera because it also happens to be a great place for photographs. Summer is the best.

A "Gone with the Wind" Kind of Sunset

I caught one of my all time favorite movies on television the other night: Gone with the Wind. I love everything about that movie, but especially the cinematography. The sunsets are the best. So dramatic and colorful. I never thought sunsets like those in the movie existed in real life . . . until last night. I caught the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen. It was shocking how beautiful it was.
I probably took about fifty photographs but here are a few of my favorites:

I apologize for the multitude of sunset photos. There are so many more and I could not choose between these. I really hope to see another sunset like this one in my life time.
I may, after all, tomorrow is another day!

Hazy

It has been a hot and beautiful summer so far! I am happy to say that my studio is up and running again. It is also now electrified! I am especially excited about that. I can't wait to get in there and work on some projects that I have been putting off for a long time. I have some weekend adventures planned that should produce some nice photographs.
For now I will leave you with this hazy image.
Have a great weekend!
